Why study at this university for your career in life? This is a question that I found several students at Stella Maris Mtwara University College (STeMMUCo) discussing a number of issues including this matter. The discussion was among students from different regions of their country. STeMMUCo is a university found in Mtwara; a southern and most eastern city of that country.
In the course of their discussion I learnt that there are a number of academic programmes that a student can pursue and make a career of their choice in life. The question why study at this university is responded by that student that this university college has opportunities of their own kind. It is found in a town famous and with the highest amount of cashew nuts production in the country, it is home to the Makonde; a culture best known for their rare skills in sculpture. The college is located almost at the shores of the Indian ocean giving it a very good sea view.

Sociology
Why study at this university? Studying at this university would give a prospective student an opportunity to study sociology. Sociology is a discipline that deals with the society; it studies and analyses the many activities taking place in the society.
As a sociologist you as a prospective student will learn, as said above, about the many dynamics of a society. one will learn why are some people rich while others are poor. What can be done to alleviate and even eradicate poverty if possible at all. One will learn why educated youth fail to secure employment despite their academic ability. One will learn about women affairs and how they could be emancipated and encouraged to realize their potential in life.
Laws
Laws is one of the disciplines that a prospective student will be able to learn when they join the university. In the degree of laws a student learns about dynamics of how laws uphold a society. The student will learn both local and international laws.
At the level of local level; the student will learn on how laws can help bring social order in the society. Laws ensure a rule of law which in turn facilitates development due to peace and stability enhanced by laws starting with the constitution. The constitution which is also known as the mother law guides all other laws in the land.
Philosophy
This is a discipline that trains a student how to think logically, systematically while searching for truth of reality. It empowers a student and be able to manage their environment while actualizing their potential in life.
A student studying philosophy can work with intercultural and inter racial local and international institutions as philosophies from people of all walks of life and nations prepare him or her for that.
Education
This discipline trains a student how to train others. It empowers a student with a number of skills that make him an expert of knowing others through psychology. He needs to be empowered with the knowledge of psychology as he is going to teach pupils into individuals of specific careers in the future.
Education opens the door for many other future skills and careers which are necessary in a country to realize development of a given community, society and country.
Business Administration
Business Administration prepares a student to manage future businesses. The discipline prepares a student for self employment or by being employed; that is in a private institution or in a public institution.
When business owners are well trained and prepared; it ensures a health economy in a country as such experts are risks takers, initiate business ideas that produce future wealth of a nation.
Mathematics
We live in the 21st century an age of science and technology. Science and technology are accompanied by mathematics. Mathematics and thus mathematicians are necessary in our every day life as its application is practical and necessary in our age.
